Waterproof Vinyl Decking in Connecticut
When leaks appear on a balcony, the problem quickly shifts from aesthetics to safety. In this project, we worked with a property in Connecticut that had a fireplace on the balcony. Due to constant contact with moisture, the decking and wooden elements were completely rotted, and water was flowing down, damaging the facade.
To prevent further issues, we applied advanced waterproofing solutions that protect the structure from rain and snow. The owner wanted to restore the space and make it usable regardless of the weather.
Stages of Work
Dismantling the damaged flooring. We removed the old coating, which had lost its load-bearing capacity, and cleaned the substrate from the remains of rotten elements.
Restoration of the structure. We replaced the damaged sections of wood to give the balcony a solid foundation.
Creating a slope for water drainage. We created a small slope, thanks to which rainwater no longer accumulates, but flows outside.
Installation of a new layer of plywood. A new playwood was laid out, which became a flat base for further work.
Puttying and sanding. The joints were sealed with a special putty, and the surface was sanded to a perfectly smooth state.
Laying vinyl flooring. We applied a waterproof vinyl coating to the prepared base, which protects the balcony from further leaks.
Installation of fences. For the safety of using the balcony, we installed metal rails.
Features of the Materials Used
The waterproof vinyl decking system was used in the work. Its key characteristics include
- airtightness due to the one-piece vinyl layer
- resistance to moisture and temperature changes;
- the ability to choose a color (12-15 options);
- easy integration with additional elements such as rails.
Final Result
After the work was completed, the balcony with the fireplace got a new life. The surface is now dry, flat and ready for use. The water is now drained outside, the structure is protected from rotting, and the installed fences have increased safety. The customer can freely use the space as an additional recreation area.
